Luka Perkins-Petit est photographe-artiste, résidant actuellement à Arles. Il a commencé ses études dans le cinéma, à la Sorbonne-Nouvelle, qu’il conclut par une année d’échange en Estonie, à la Baltic Film and Media school ; année durant laquelle il se tourne vers la photographie, d’abord comme mode de recherche pour sa pratique cinématographique, puis comme support principal. De retour à Paris, il est sélectionné pour le Nouveau Grand Tour pour une résidence de recherche-création en 2022 à la Kulturfactory ; depuis, il a participé a plusieurs expositions collectives (Festival photoMarseille en 2024, à la Galerie l’Aléatoire en 2023...), et prépare aujourd’hui sa première exposition personnelle à la Libraire du Palais, ouverte pendant les Rencontres de la Photographie d’Arles. Il poursuit également un master à l’ENSP, et prépare la sortie de Okta-9 chez Palais Books en juillet 2025.
Au fil de projets, qui se structurent souvent comme des enquêtes, Luka Perkins-Petit développe des recherches au long cours qui nourissent ses prises de vues et les experimentations qu’il réalise sur l’image. L’anticipation, la notion de remède, la volonté de contrôle ou encore le rapport à la catastrophe l’emmène sur le terrain des phénomènes atmosphériques, de la pyrotechnique ou encore de la medecine par la lumière - il essaye de cultiver cette incertitude active, entre observation, pressentiment et vertige.
Luka Perkins-Petit is a photographer and artist currently based in Arles. He began his studies in film at Sorbonne Nouvelle, which he concluded with an exchange year in Estonia at the Baltic Film and Media School. During that year, he turned to photography—initially as a research tool for his cinematic practice, and eventually as his primary medium.
Back in Paris, he was selected for the Nouveau Grand Tour and took part in a research-creation residency at Kulturfactory in 2022. Since then, he has participated in several group exhibitions (including Festival PhotoMarseille in 2024 and Galerie l’Aléatoire in 2023), and is now preparing his first solo exhibition at the Librairie du Palais, on view during the Rencontres de la Photographie in Arles.
He is also completing a master’s degree at ENSP and preparing the release of Okta-9 with Palais Books in July 2025.
Across his projects—which often take the form of investigations—Luka Perkins-Petit develops long-term research that informs his image-making and the visual experiments he carries out. Themes such as anticipation, the notion of remedy, the desire for control, and the relationship to catastrophe lead him to explore atmospheric phenomena, pyrotechnics, and light-based medicine. He strives to cultivate a kind of active uncertainty—somewhere between observation, foreboding, and vertigo.
